On Wednesday, September 30, 2020 St. Mary of the Angels along with the YCDSB is preparing to participate in Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is intended to promote healing, understanding and reconciliation in our YCDSB Catholic school communities, where Indigenous and non Indigenous students and staff study, work and pray together each day. Orange shirt day began because of a residential school survivor named Phyllis Webstad and her need to share her story and have Canadians learn about the schools as part of her healing process. Orange shirt day is a day of remembrance, reflection, reconciliation and healing – for every child that survived a residential school, and those 3000 that never made it home – their stories matter because EVERY CHILD MATTERS!
